Blasts from the Past

Rick has been crafting with duct tape for well over a decade now. Here are a few creations that were fun to make, but just didn’t catch on:

Rick enjoyed making place-mats, but no one ever showed much interest in them. The sort of people who use them tend to turn their noses up at duct tape crafts. It still has a stigma of being used to make cheap temporary repairs.

CD cases were popular for a time, but who carries CD’s around anymore? Curse you, digital media…

Someone once asked if we’d start making wine bottle gift bags. She was quite enthusiastic about it, so we made a dozen or so. We never saw her again. As it turns out, the sort of people who buy wine gift bags also tend to use place-mats, and don’t recognize duct tape as a legitimate craft medium.

The giant soccer ball was never for sale, to be honest. It was a concept piece built solely for Rick’s own amusement. But it was a huge attraction at outdoor craft fairs. Small children could not resist kicking it around, to the horror of their parents. We knew it could take it, of course, and it survived years of abuse. Sadly, it was no match for Repo, our Belgian Malinois. He managed to retire it after only a few minutes.

He’s adorable, but destructive.

Just because we don’t carry these things in stock anymore doesn’t mean we’ll never make them again. Rick is still willing to take custom orders, but prefers payment up front.
