One of my favorite show pieces is this duct tape model of R2-D2, everyone’s favorite droid from Star Wars (the orange soccer ball droid notwithstanding).
R2 took about a week to complete, using stills from the movies as reference. Nearly every panel, light, and decoration is as close to the original as possible using duct tape.
The base is made up of two empty rolls, and the dome is stuffed with plastic grocery bags to keep it from collapsing.
The decals hid imperfections. 
The “legs” don’t actually reach the table.
